“Never doubt that small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has”- Margaret Mead
Women have played a huge role in our lives, from the moment that we are born to the moment we leave the earth. They have not only played a huge role in our lives but women have had a huge impact on the environment as well. They don’t call it Mother Earth for no reason. This month, we celebrate the strong women in our lives, and as Delta, we are celebrating those who have evolved and changed Trash to Cash.
Zimbabwe has been prone to poor disposal systems, whether its garbage or waste. However, there are some women who have chosen to make light of these iniquities on Mother Earth. According to research, women who collect garbage/plastic waste get at least 25 cents per kilogram. Imagine the amount of waste that is put on the planet, now imagine how much of that is plastic. These women are getting paper (literally) and are bettering the planet at the same time.
These amazing women have even created a Community Based Organisation where they collectively take the plastic waste and then when they sell it they share the money. Not only are they changing the environment, but they have also decided to change their communities as well. They are mindful of their environment and their pockets at the same time. By having these organizations, these women are uplifting each other. This is something we like seeing and hopefully, these organizations will keep growing and our environment made cleaner!
