Conservation is a state of harmony between men and land. – Aldo Leopold
As we work hard to make our lives better, let us strive to make our planet better as well. Let your workplace become your home away from home by making it green and trying to be more sustainable. Here are some tips on how to lead the scene and keep it green!
1. Green Team
If your organization is new to the green space, it is necessary to appoint a green team. This team will help raise awareness and accomplish more. With projects that they can push for, for example, having monthly sustainable (green) challenges and green programs, the team can educate the masses in no time.
2. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
We are happy that most schools are teaching this mantra to children; which they, in turn, educate the parents. But, we can learn a lot from this slogan. You can start by reducing the paper that you use in the workplace. As a department, you can begin by stopping to print willy nilly and print when necessary. Move with the times by going paperless and use e-documents instead. Don’t let things go to waste, reuse and get save money. Used material can be reused for the same purpose twice or even three times. For example, use an envelope responsibly, and you get to use it again. That’s convenient and saves money at the end of the day! Let your inner craftsman out by recycling the discarded material into one of a kind trinkets! You could reuse the boxes in the workplace and design storage space for your documents or files. Take your old envelopes and use these for quick notes. The list is endless! Recycle paper, cardboard, cans, and bottles and make your workplace a better place!
3. Carpool Carebears
Reduce carbon emissions by carpooling with your workmates and do some carpool karaoke to make the ride to work fun. Did you know transportation accounts for nearly 30% of greenhouse gas emissions? That’s almost one-fifth of that emission. Joining a carpool saves money and reduces gas emissions.
4. Use green materials
Support the green cause and buy materials that are made from recycled and environmentally friendly materials. Refillable pens and markers are also green options. Every step towards green counts. With these steps towards going green, we are going to make the world a better place.
5. Use green alternatives
There is no better way of going green than by using energy-efficient lights such as LED lights. They use 80% less energy than traditional lighting. Also, LEDs have a longer life span and higher distribution of light. Keeping off the lights whenever possible reduces power costs and conserves energy.
6. Breath of Fresh Air
Don’t forget to get a small plant for your desk. Not only are you bringing a breath of fresh air to the office, but you are also removing 10% of carbon dioxide and pollutants in offices.
